5 South message server: the future of 5 South messaging I know that the message boards and the chat rooms have not exactly gone over very big. Sorry about that. But this new message server from Yahoo Groups (formerly "eGroups") thing just might take us back to the heady days just before our big reunion. I remember back then, we had lots of emails flying back and forth. Most of us loved it, but some folks felt assaulted by the massive volume of email. Since then, I set up several message boards on the website, trying to recapture the spirit of those halcyon days. But they have gotten very little use, probably because they were slow and sucky and not very user friendly. Well, NOW, we have an in-between option! This message server thing is truely "the best of both worlds". You can use it exactly like a message board (but a fast and easy to use one) which you visit (right here) at your leisure, read messages, post messages, etc. You can even sort them by thread, or by date. It's fun!! Or, you can have the board email messages to you as they are posted, IF YOU CHOOSE. This would make it just like the furious email days of old, for those of us who enjoyed that sort of thing. You can post messages either by going to the board and selecting "Post", or by emailing to the group email address, fivesouth@yahoogroups.com. For those of you who never like the simple options, there is a middle ground as well. You can sign up for a "daily digest" of messages. This means that, once per day, you will get one email of that days message board activity. You don't have to fire up your browser or anything, and won't have to deal with huge volumes of email, either. Anyway, please check it out and lemme know what you think.
